September 15: Old Friends

10:10pm

Somehow I thought I would really be all alone here at the University this year. Most of my friends should have graduated. I didn't really know any freshman, so the only people I might know would be seniors now. However, I have run into some really cool people over the last couple weeks.

I went to lunch today with an old friend from Japanese class. We didn't speak in Japanese or anything, but we did talk about things Japanese. Traci lived in Japan before and somehow our interests are just common enough to make conversation interesting. We talked about our favorite Japanese teachers and our favorite Japanese singers. It sounds pretty trivial, but it was like a nice homecoming that I thought I could only get in LeRoy. It is nice to know that I do have somewhat of a home here in Chambana too.

Brica returned from her weekend camping trip today. I haven't talked to her, but I assume that she still doesn't know whether or not she is coming to Illinois on Thursday. I think this whole last minute thing is really going to try my patience this week. I have to call her in a bit and get the scoop. Who knows, maybe she hooked up with this guy she went camping with and will never come back again.

Back on old friends thing, I did finally get to talk to my host family last night. It was about a twenty minute call, but even that seemed short. They all passed the phone around so that they could say hi. Japanese people aren't known for long phone conversations. I did talk to my sister for a few minutes. She promised to send me a video with some news and comedy shows that I like. I want to send them some great piece of Americana, but I don't know what that would be. Anyway, it was nice to hear their voices, so I escape loneliness for a few more days.
